Welcome Baby Trent!!!
This Wednesday, Jen (my older sis) had her third little boy!!! His name is Trenton Gary Roper and he weighs 7 lbs 9 oz and is 20.5 inches! He is very healthy and both he and his mommy are doing very well. Jen is a superstar in the delivery room...she has very high pain tolerance, stays very calm, and always keeps her composure (I need to take lessons from her:). We are so happy that he is finally here and I know that Jen, Matt, Wade (4), and Seth (2) couldn't be anymore delighted to have him join their Roper clan!

Happy Mother's Day Jess!!!
Since today is Mother's Day, I told Jess that I was going to take care of her post this week. "I" being Ben, Jess' awesome(?!?) husband. Anyway, I really want to let Jess know how much I love and appreciate her.
For any of you that don't know Jess that well, she is probably the nicest person you'll ever meet. She is friends with everyone, and is somehow able to look past other peoples' flaws (thank goodness for me). She is also one of the hardest workers I have ever met. She makes me want to be a better person and always strive hard to achieve my goals. I hope that we can pass those traits on to Logan and our future kids.
As far as being a mom goes, she does soooo much! Most importantly, she takes care of Logan. She rolls around on the floor with him all day. When I come home in the eveninig I usually come home to the two of them laughing it up. It makes me grateful that Logan has a mom that is so dedicated. Jess is also great at keeping the house neat and clean and is working hard to become a good cook (keep it up!!!).

As you can see, she's always been cute as a button!
She's always tried to make me feel comfortable, though I've discouraged her from using the same tactics on Logan as she used on me.
Jess isn't afraid to serve up some old fashioned discipline (to me only, of course, not our little Logi).
How can anyone resist this couple?

Ready or Not...Here Comes Logan!!!
He became a little crawling machine overnight! We've been frantically trying to babyproof the house all week, but we still have some work to do. He gets into EVERYTHING now and, I know, this is only the beginning:)
Sorry, the swimming video is a little blurry, but here are some pics of Logan at the pool:
He had no fear, he was crawling in the water straight into the deep end! He was trying to play with all of the big kids out there:) I am thankful that he likes the water because we are going to be doing a lot of swimming in the 110+ weather that is soon on its way!

First Haircut
To say the least, Logan does not have much hair, but the hair he does have is growing at all different lengths and starting to hang over his ears. So, we thought that is was about time for his first haircut to kinda even things out. Luckily, we have a "barber" in the family. Uncle Clark (Ben's brother) began cutting his own hair (which he got carried away with and didn't leave much behind...he, he, sorry Clark) and then moved on to his brothers, cousins, and neighborhood friends. With many years of "experience" we felt comfortable with putting Logan's little crazy hairs in his hands:)
So, in the Roper's backyard, we strapped Logan to a chair and Uncle Clark had at it! Looking at the pictures, you probably can't tell a difference, but mommy can;) He was such a good boy through the whole thing and we are so excited for many more milestones to come! Thanks Uncle Clark...you did a fabulous job!

Lots-o-Visitors
This past week, we have had quite a few visitors and now that everyone is gone Logan is missing all of the extra attention. Last week, I so rudely forgot to mention that my dad flew into to town for a quick over-nighter the same night Ben's parents arrived. Sorry, Dad, for not recognizing you in my last post, but I am truly thankful that you visit us so often that it seems like a normal thing. Of course, that doesn't mean that it is any less special:) We love you so much and can't wait for your next visit!
As for the rest of the week with the Bryners, it consisted of cooking (Annette taught me how the make gluten free bread...yes, I made bread...thanks Annette!), eating, watching the conference talks that we missed, and serious gluten free (GF) grocery shopping!
For those of you who are not familiar, a GF diet consists of not eating any foods that contain wheat flour, barley, or oats (only for cross contamination purposes). You're probably wondering why someone would subject themselves to such a limited diet. Well, not long ago Ben's mom, Annette, was diagnosed with Celiac Disease, which is almost 100% treated by following a GF diet. Since the disease is highly hereditary she decided to have all of her children tested. After all of the results came in...4 of the 7 kids were diagnosed with the disease! Not only that, but Ben's dad, Brent, was diagnosed about a month ago!!! So, with that being said, in our house and when the Bryner's come to town, we all eat GF.
I also, through advisment of a Pediatrics Gastroentrologist, am not going to introduce gluten to Logan until he is 2 or maybe not at all. There are studies out there that link gluten intollerance to Autism (though, majority of the studies are not very reliable) and with Logan's chances of inheriting the disease (>50%) it is not worth the risk (I know I am a paranoid mommy, but it is better to be safe than sorry especially when it is just a matter of avoiding things in his diet...easy now, but ask me in 10 years:). Finding GF finger foods have been a challenge, but other than that, following the diet for both Ben and Logan has not been that big of a deal...thankfully:)
Unfortunately, Logan (UT, where Ben' family is from) does not have many stores that sell GF foods, so we spent a lot of their stay hitting up all of the health food stores like: Sprouts, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and a local Farmer's Market. We found a lot of great stuff and Annette was happy to find new and different GF foods that she can share with her Celiac Disease support group that she founded and conducts.
After all of the shopping we spent time with the Ropers, Clark and Lindsay, and had an unexpected visit from Brent's sister Janice and her husband Kevin who were in town for business. We all went to Tia Rosa's for some Celiac friendly Mexican food...a Mesa favorite!
We had so much fun with the Bryners and we wish that we could see them more often:( Annette and Brent, thanks so much for visiting! We love you and miss you already! See you in a few months:)

After the Bryners left on Thursday, Ben's best friend Miles came to town for some "business." He only stayed over night, but it was good to see him and ladies...he's single!!!
Last, but not least, we got together with the Ropers and our friends the Shakespears to meet their newest little visitor...more like, permanent visitor to their family...Reagan Scott Shakespear! He is only 2 weeks old and he is so alert and has the sweetest little face:) Logan enjoyed getting to know his new friend and can't wait for his next friend/cousin Trent Roper to arrive this May!
I also, worked Monday and Friday this week (13 hour shifts)...I need a nap!!!
However, it was a very fun, but busy week:)

Grandma & Grandpa Bryner Are Here to Visit!
Ben's parents, Annette and Brent, are visiting us this week. They flew in Friday night and will be staying until Thursday! We love it when they come to visit!
We started out their trip by waking up early Saturday morning and driving to Tombstone, AZ to check out the Wild, Wild West!
After Tombstone, we headed to Kartchner Caverns State Park, which is an incredible cave. We took the 1 & 1/2 hour tour and Logan was such a good boy! We were nervous because the cave was dark, warm, and about 98% humidity, but Logan loved every minute of it! I think we have a little outdoor explorer on our hands:) Thanks Lindsay for the VIP passes...it was a great experience!
Today, we have been relaxing and enjoying watching conference. For an in between sessions break, we took a walk over to the park and enjoyed the beautiful weather...I wish it would stay this way all year (too bad the 100+ weather is just around the corner)!
We all are enjoying having them here and are happy that we have a few more days to spend with them:)Logan just LOVES his Grandma and Grandpa Bryner and we do too!
